7 TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR HOUSE FOR SALE
Home staging gets a bad rap sometimes, a lot of people think it is a waste of money or just too expensive. Which is far from the truth! Home staging can actually make you more money at the closing table. For every dollar you invest in staging on average you will get $4 in return.
Here are 7 inexpensive ways to prepare your house for sale:
1. De-clutter.
Start by decluttering your home by putting away items that you no longer need and get creative with storage solutions to organize your cabinets, drawers and closets.
2. Start packing.
Pack away items that you will not need immediately over the next few months. As an example… your seasonal clothing. Also pack personal items like photos and collectibles to enhance space. Personal photos distract buyers from paying attention to the features of your home. On average showings last about 11 minutes. You want to make sure that during this time the buyers look at the features of the home, not your personal photos. Let’s be honest you are moving anyway, so why not to start to pack early?
3. Clean up.
Giving your entire house a wash! It is a must when preparing the home for the market. Especially pay a close attention to bathrooms and the kitchen. Give windows a good clean too. Yes, it is a labor intensive but very much worth it!
4. Handle needed repairs.
If you have small repair projects around the home, it is a wise idea to complete them before going on the market to avoid buyers beating you up on the price.
5. Painting.
Painting is also an affordable way to change the entire look of a room and make the home look fresh and clean.
6. Reuse items.
Another simple solution is to use what you already have in the home and play with rearranging furniture to maximize the square footage and each room’s traffic patterns.
7. Curb appeal.
Last but not least, spruce up your curb appeal at the door! Put some seasonal flowers out, a new front door mat and a wreath to welcome buyers at the front door.
